The Society of Franciscan Brothers was founded in 1901 with Mumbai as its International Headquarters to train, educate, and cater to the needs of the Orphans and underprivileged children of the area. A formal boys' Home and school were established in 1908. The Society now has 67 centers in India conducting boys Homes, schools, technical training centers, and Higher learning centers, such as Eng. College, M.B.A. College , Degree College, agricultural training farms, youth centers clinics, Home for the aged and Boys homes, The main focuses in all these activities is oriented towards the holistic development of the individual especially lower-middle class and underprivileged without any distinction what so ever, in rural area, they aim to provide primary education and appropriate level of higher education to create self employed persons.

The society's Higher Education centers are located in urban and semi-urban areas, providing higher level general and technical education and academic education to create a higher education center of excellence. Keeping in that view, we have started St. Francis Degree college in Mount Poinsur in 2024 under Mumbai University.
